<dc:description>The collection of phlebotomine sand flies of the Centro de Pesquisas René Rachou localized in Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, was initiated in the 50th with Prof. Amilcar Vianna Martins and Alda Lima Falcão. The collection has approximately 93.000 sand flies specimens distributed among 377 species from the Americas and other 43 species from the continents Europe, Africa and Asia. The specimens are mounted in Berlese medium or Canada Balsam on glass slide and coverslip and part of this collection consist of the `Standard Collection` formed by type species and a sample, if possible, of 15 specimens of each species. All other specimens are kept in slides wooden boxes and organized in shelves by alphabetical order in accordance to each species. In the Standard Collection are deposited about 670 types belonging 126. In the collection there are also 12 species of sandflies fossil found in amber from the Dominican Republic. Some species deposited in the Collection of Sand flies do not exist in other collections, which makes her unique collection. The examination of the material in the collection, donation request and exchanges can be made by request to the curators José Dilermando Andrade Filho and Paloma Helena Fernandes Shimabukuro..
